WWE threw a real swerve at fans this week when Mustafa Ali was revealed as the leader of Retribution. How long was WWE planning this?
Ringside News exclusively reported that Mustafa Ali was the SmackDown mystery hacker and we detailed how that angle broke down backstage. We encourage you to check that exclusive out because it does give fans a great idea of what Ali has been through.
Mustafa Ali is now followed by Retribution members on social media. He is their leader, but this decision wasn’t a long term plan at all. As we previously reported Vince McMahon created this stable “on a whim.”
Ringside News has learned that Mustafa Ali was decided as the leader of Retribution “about two weeks ago.” This places that decision right before or directly after Retribution debuted names and a new look on Raw.
Also, this new direction for Ali has nothing to do with the abandoned SmackDown Mystery Hacker angle, but you can assume it does if that makes you happy. That being said, it would be very smart to insert some verbiage that ties the two angles together.
We’re not sure why Mercedes Martinez and Mia Yim were not a part of this week’s angle. Nobody ever talks about why someone isn’t available anymore unless it’s an injury.
