NJPW and AEW have stars who could create some big dream match situations if given the opportunity. That “Forbidden Door” has yet to open, but Herald Meij’s departure as NJPW’s President could create a better situation.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, NJPW talent didn’t have the best view of Meij’s business sense when it came to pro wrestling. He made a lot of money outside of the pro wrestling business, but everything changes in this world.

One NJPW star reportedly called Meij “an idiot” when it came to understanding how pro wrestling worked. Now a partnership with AEW and NJPW might be a real possibility.

“No idea (regarding opening up the business relationship with Meij out),” said one of AEW’s top names. “We want to. But he (Meij) was an idiot when it came to understanding the business. Hopefully things will change now.”

AEW stars such as Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega are allowed to work in NJPW along with AEW. Omega has yet to take advantage of that.

FTR have the same deal in their contracts as well as Miro. Jon Moxley is the current IWGP United States Champion, but he hasn’t been allowed to defend that title since the pandemic struck.

There are a lot of undeniable ties between AEW and NJPW. Perhaps if they can work together then it could result in a very fruitful partnership.
