Renee Young is no longer with WWE, but she had quite a lot of experiences while working for Vince McMahon’s company. That included her becoming the first female to hold a full-time commentary position on the world’s longest-running weekly episodic television show: RAW.
Since Renee Paquette bid WWE farewell her phone has been ringing off the hook. She is in a great position where she was literally pick her next destination. There was a time when she was with WWE and determined to make it work as a commentator learning in front of millions.
Renee Paquette recently spoke to Sports Media with Richard Deitsch where her time on RAW commentary came up. She was asked about Vince McMahon barking orders into the commentary team’s headset. Young confirmed that they are always receiving direction, but she had a lot of trouble understanding her gravely-voiced boss over the headset at times.
“Honestly, one of my biggest issues when Vince would feed me a line for something and I couldn’t hear him or understand him. So I was like, ‘wait, what?’ and trying to get him to repeat it on the like little spy cam on the commentary desk. So, it always just felt like a little bit of a lack of communication or like you know even when I wanted more direction to be produced for different things I don’t feel like I was really getting that.”
Doing commentary on WWE RAW has to be a highly stressful situation. Renee was live, and learning the ropes. She had no time to take a trip to the Performance Center and learn anything in their lab as she was needed on RAW every week.
Now Renee Young can look forward to the next chapter in her career where she can rely on more than soundbites to communicate.
