WWE needs to bring more interest back to their television product. The pandemic and so many other factors have created an environment where there’s no telling how low the viewership will be each week.
The company also seems to be in the mood to crown double champions. There are plenty of absent Superstars as well. Some fans area starting to believe that it would be best if WWE ended the RAW and SmackDown roster split.
During Wrestling Observer Radio (transcription by Ringside News), Dave Meltzer discussed the possibility of WWE calling an end to the brand split. It’s always a possibility, especially during a time like this. The decision is 100% up to Vince McMahon.
“Look, Vince can decide anything on a moment’s notice tomorrow. That’s, you know if the ratings go low enough — every time the ratings go low enough that’s the answer, so it’s just a question of when if it happens if he decides to pull the trigger that day. It’s 100% Vince and he’ll do it with no warning, or he won’t do it.”
WWE has a lot of things that they need to worry about right now. As we exclusively reported Fox and USA Network are running out of patience. They want to see more viewers and they don’t want to wait until WWE starts playing arenas again.
Ending the brand split is always a possibility. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time that WWE decided to join the rosters during a time of slumping interest. It’s also pretty clear that if it happens nobody will get much warning at all.
