WWE needs to pull viewership back to their television products. They are doing things like booking pay-per-view level matches for television. This tactic isn’t likely to stop any time soon.

Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler will battle in a WWE Title match next week on RAW. Big Show and Randy Orton fought this week. SmackDown will also feature a Bar Fight that was initially slated for Extreme Rules.

During Wrestling Observer Radio (transcription by Ringside News), Dave Meltzer explained exactly what WWE’s new mindset is for their weekly tapings. The focus is largely off building toward their next big event. Now they are trying to figure out what they can do to boost ratings for the next week.

“So much is done for this week and next week’s television ratings. Not stuff like building stories or certainly building new talent which would help the ratings in the long term. It’s just get familiar guys on TV in some form.”

Ringside News exclusively reported that Fox and USA Network aren’t that patient anymore with the viewership. They can’t wait until WWE is running arenas with fans again. They want to see things turn around, especially before Monday Night Football comes back.
