Welcome to Ringside News’ live results coverage of The Horror Show At Extreme Rules.

With 2020 being what it is and WWE branching out to try new things is commonplace now. And with that we’ve arrived at the most unique Extreme Rules PPV to date. While there are lots of matches on tonight’s show, the biggest talking point is obviously Seth Rollins Vs. Rey Mysterio in an eye-for-an-eye match. WWE has promised one of these guys is going to have their eye gouged out, so we have to assume that means the use of CGI. The jury is very much out of whether or not this is good or a complete disaster.

The other odd match tonight is Bray Wyatt Vs. Braun Strowman in a Swamp Fight. This is, presumably, another cinematic match, and so far those have been largely pretty great. Oddly, it isn’t a title match though, so that might in fact mean a win for Bray Wyatt.

Other matches tonight will see Drew McIntyre defend his WWE Championship against Dolph Ziggler tonight but the stipulation has yet to be revealed, Asuka Vs. Sasha Banks for the RAW Women’s Championship, Bayley Vs. Nikki Cross for the SmackDown Women’s Championship, and Apollo Crews Vs. MVP for the United States Championship.

And that’s the card for The Horror Show. It could be a really fun show, but it may also be a complete…horror show. Follow along here from 6 PM EST for the Kick-Off, and enjoy the show!

Kick-Off Show

Peter Rosenberg and Scott Stanford are conducting the Kick-Off Show and they run down the card for the PPV, including the addition of Kevin Owens Vs. Murphy on the pre-show.

Rosenberg and Stanford discuss Wyatt Vs. Strowman in the Swamp Fight, and we see a great hype video that goes back to the origins of The Wyatt Family. Booker T, Renee Young, and JBL join the show on Zoom and lay out their thoughts. Booker says he’s been excited for this match since it was announced but doens’t know what to expect. They argue over whether or not Braun can really break free from Wyatt and be his own man. Renee Young wonders if there’s going to be alligators in the swamp.

Kayla Braxton interviews New Day backstage and asks how they’ve prepared for a tables match tonight. Kofi says they have to become one with the table. Big E says he’s been eaten off tables and slept on them, but you need to be inside the wood, and the wood will be in you, then he smiled. D-Von Dudley joins them and Kofi says D-Von has destroyed over 10 million tables. D-Von reminds them he even put them through tables and Kofi says he don’t gotta be that way. Big E asks him to use his big girthy brain and tell them the strategy for winning such a match and he says it’s simple; put your opponent through a table.

MVP is backstage with Lashley and Charly approaches them. She asks about his match against Apollo Crews tonight and Lashley says he isn’t the real Champion. Real Champions show up to work each week, but Crews is in the witness protection program since he was introduced to the hurt business. MVP says that, even if Apollo is 100% tonight, he still has to face the greatest United States Champion tonight. He says he spent a mint on the new US Title, because he knows you can’t put a price on wisdom, and he knew he would be Champion anyway. And a lot of people in WWE had better get wise and not disrespect them the way Apollo did.

It’s time to dicsuss the Eye-For-An-Eye Match with Young, Booker, and JBL. She says this match is going to be hard to watch and asks JBL if he’s surprised Rey chose the stipulation. JBL says he isn’t because he wrestled Rey at WrestleMania 25 and he retired after that. He knows what Rey is capable of and what his family means to him. Booker talks about Rey getting Dominik involved and how that’s the biggest mistake here, his son’s ass would have been at home.

Kevin Owens Vs. Murphy

The bell rings and KO looks for a Stunner but gets shoved off, then batters Murphy into the corner. Murphy counters Owens and hits a knee for a two-count. They trade shots back and forth until Murphy takes a sleeper. KO fights out but Murphy kicks him and goes up top. Murphy jumps into a boot and a DDT.

Owens hits an inverted atomic drop and a big lariat. Murphy counters a senton but gets thrown face-first into the turnbuckles and hit with a cannonball. Owens puts Murphy on the top turnbuckle but gets punched off. Murphy hits a meteora from up top and scores a near-fall. Owens catches a kick and looks for the Pop-Up Powerbomb but Murphy lands on his feet. Murphy hits two big knees to the chin, then a brainbuster for a near-fall.

Murphy lands a few shots, then takes KO to the top rope. Owens denies Murphy a superplex and throws him off, then hits a moonsault for a near-fall. Owens counters Murphy with a superkick, then hits a Stunner for the win!

Winner: Kevin Owens

We’re back with Renee, JBL, and Booker to discuss Sasha Banks Vs. Asuka tonight. Booker says Asuka is in that space where she feels invincible but it will come down to who wants it more. JBL says he hopes Bayley and Kairi Sane don’t get involved tonight because before Charlotte and Becky were the big names, it was Asuka and Sasha. He thinks they have the chance tonight to remind everyone why they’re two of the best of all-time. JBL says Bayley and Sasha remind him of Shawn Michaels and Triple H.

Renee asks JBL what will happen to Big Show’s legacy if Randy Orton puts him on the shelf tomorrow night. He says nothing, really, because nobody can really compare to Big Show. As for Orton, he’s the best he’s ever been and he can’t wait to see them collide. Booker agrees and says time waits for no man, Big Show has given a lot with nothing to prove, and time is literally weighing him down like it did with Andre. Meanwhile Orton is in his prime and he might end Big Show’s career.

Rosenberg and Stanford talk about Ziggler Vs. McIntyre tonight, before joking about the Swamp Fight and Eye-For-An-Eye match. And that’s the Extreme Rules Kick-Off Show done, the main card starts now!

The Horror Show at Extreme Rules

The Horror Show opens with a dark, creepy video package with some cool narration.

Cesaro shoves Big E off the top, then does the swing and Nakamura hits a running knee. Kingston comes back and throws Nakamura over the ropes and he lands by the table near the ramp.

Kofi gets Cesaro on the top rope and tries to hurricanrana him through the double tables, but Cesaro holds on. Nakamura reappears and kicks Kofi in the head as he hangs upside down, then Cesaro powerbombs Kofi through both tables!

Winners and New SmackDown Tag Team Champions: Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura

After the match Cesaro and Nakamura tell Michael Cole and Corey Graves to stop doubting them, then sit on a table and pose.

We see Alexa Bliss giving Nikki Cross, Asuka, and Kairi Sane a pep talk backstage and Cross gets riled-up for her title match.

SmackDown Women’s ChampionshiP

(C) Bayley W/Sasha Banks Vs. Nikki Cross W/Alexa Bliss

The match gets underway and Bayley forces Cross to the corner and slaps her. Cross doesn’t get mad, instead goes for a lock-up again but Bayley shrugs her off with a hip toss and poses. Bayley forces her to the corner but, out of nowhere, Nikki hits Bayley with her swinging neckbreaker finisher but Bayley kicks out!

Bayley rolls outside to regroup but Cross brings her back in and hits a crossbody from the top rope, then another for a two-count. Bayley starts turning the tables and chokes Cross on the middle rope. Bayley talks trash as she beats Cross in the corner. Bayley pulls a page out of Cross’ book and traps her in the ring apron, then batters her with forearms.

Both women end up in the apron and Cross unloads on her. Cross then snaps Bayley on the ropes, like Bayley does, then performs a running splash after using Bayley’s old buddy taunt. Cross puts the Bank Statement on Bayley but Bayley escapes and hits the Bayley-to-Belly for a near-fall!

Banks gives Bayley her “Boss” ring, which Bayley uses to punch Cross and hit her finish for the win!

Winner: Bayley

We get a horror-themed episode of The Firefly Funhouse, in which Bray is dressed like Dracula and everything is sepia-tone. Bray welcomes us and says he has the most horrifying footage to show us. A clip plays of the karaoke from SmackDown two weeks ago but then cuts off and Bray reprimands Ramblin’ Rabbit, saying he knows that’s not the clip. Instead, he has a clip from the past Braun Strowman wants everyone to forget, but we don’t see said clip.

The United States Championship match won’t be taking place tonight. The announcers explain that Apollo Crews wasn’t medically cleared to compete tonight. MVP and Bobby Lashley come to the ring as we see replays of how Crews suffered the injury.

MVP says that’s what happens when people get in the ring with the almighty. He tells Lashley he’s got to stop putting that move on with such power that he hurts people…and hinders his career. They laugh, then MVP goes out and gets the new United States Championship and announces himself the official Champion due to forfeit.

It’s time for the biggest match of the night. Seth Rollins comes to the ring with a pair of plyers and stands ready with them.

Eye-For-An-Eye Match

Rey slumps down against the steps, holding his eye and the referee calls for the bell.

Winner: Seth Rollins

Dominik and some doctors run out as Seth literally pukes on the floor. They help Rey to the back and Seth looks horrified at what he did. Maybe I missed it, but I don’t think we saw the eyeball or anything, so that kinda sucked.

Bayley is backstage and Kayla Braxton starts to ask her a question. Bayley says she was a huge fan of Rey Mysterio growing up, so it’s crazy. And, she doesn’t know if Rey will ever see this but…he’s not seeing double, she’s still Bayley Dos Straps! Charly Caruso is backstage by the doctor’s office, but they’ve taken Rey to a local hospital. The doctor told her if the optical nerve of Rey’s eye hasn’t been severed then there’s a good chance Rey won’t lose his vision.

Dolph Ziggler comes to the ring for the WWE Championship match and he waits for Drew McIntyre to make his entrance. Ziggler takes the microphone and tells Drew he underestimated him. The stipulation for this match is Extreme Rules, but only for Dolph. McIntyre can’t get counted out, disqualified, or do anything out of the ordinary, Dolph becomes Champion.

Swamp Fight

Bray Wyatt Vs. Braun Strowman

We’re in the swamp and we see Strowman pull up in a truck with Wyatt sitting in the middle of the road in a rocking chair. Strowman gets out and approaches Wyatt. He says “I’m home” but the lights go out and Bray is gone. Strowman sees a sign leading into the woods that says “abandon hope, all ye who enter”, so he throws the rocking chair into the sign.

Strowman makes his way through the woods and we see corny orange images of random animals. A couple of guys come out of the woods and attack Braun but he beats them down. Firefly Fun House bits pop up with Bray cheering for Braun. Strowman rips his shirt off and screams for Bray, but he gets hit from behind…by himself. Braun crawls away from himself standing with the sheep mask on, only to be hit with the shovel again.

Strowman wakes up tied to a chair with chains in a dirty old shack. He tries to free himself but can’t, and that’s when Bray is shown in the woods with the lantern, his old music playing. Bray enters the shack and welcomes Braun home. Bray taunts him and Braun says he hates him for everything he made him do.

Bray says he loves how much success Braun has had, but he knows it’s borrowed time. He asks who will be there when Braun’s 15 minutes of fame is gone? He screams that he is not Braun’s enemy, that they’re one in the same. They can be Gods and rule everyone. As society crumbles and governments fall, they would rule, as prophesized.

Braun says he’s going to send him back to Hell and Bray says he’s been somewhere worse than Braun could imagine. He’s been rotting in a pit in his mind but he’s back and it feels good. He’s got his wings back and he’s never going back to that pit. He says Braun is a weapon that only he knows how to wield. And, in order for him to become the monster he knows he can be, he has to destroy the monster he has become.

Braun says he will never be with him. Bray asks if he wants to see something really scary? Then a veiled woman walks in with a snake and makes it bite Braun. Cut to outside and Braun is sitting by a fire. The same goons are back and Braun beats them down, including a guy with a shovel. Braun breaks the shovel over his knee and hits the guy with it, then kicks him into the fire and laughs as he runs around on fire.

The veiled woman calls to Braun from a pier, telling him he doesn’t have to do this. It’s Alexa Bliss! She says they’ve always wanted to be together, so he should just follow her. Braun walks towards her on the pier and she calls him home. Braun stops in front of a foggy gazebo and Bray runs out, grabbing him with both hands. Braun shrugs him off and Chokeslams Bray off the pier onto a boat.

The boat turns on and sails out into the ether. Strowman laughs and walks away, but the boat comes back and it’s empty! Wyatt pops out of the water and hits Braun with a paddle. The two fight in the water, with Bray trying to drown him. Both men go under the water and it’s a minute before Braun comes out, coughing, and climbs back onto the pier. Wyatt appears behind him and swings the paddle but Braun avoids it.

Braun follows Bray into the foggy gazebo but gets beaten down with the boat paddle. Bray walks off, saying “look what you made me do.” Braun comes back and kicks him off the pier into the water. Braun watches the water and says “it’s over”, and the Extreme Rules graphic appears.

But Bray smashes out of the water, grabbing Braun with the Mandible Claw, and drags him down in. The water goes red and The Fiend comes out. The show ends with Bray laughing over and over, then saying “let me in”.

Winner: Bray Wyatt

And that’s it for The Horror Show at Extreme Rules. I think the women’s matches were pretty great, as was Drew Vs. Dolph and the tables match. I’d say the two gimmick matches will be hotly debated but the swamp fight was enjoyable for the most part.

Let us know what you thought of Extreme Rules, and I’ll see you back here tomorrow night for WWE RAW. Until then, stay safe!
