Vince McMahon fired Paul Heyman from his executive director position on WWE RAW. People are still talking about this event because the changes are still coming fro WWE’s entire television landscape.
WWE combined all of their writers into one team. They were told that a new system will be announced soon. It was still very chaotic backstage at Backlash.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed another factor which contributed to Paul Heyman’s firing. Vince McMahon didn’t want to wait on new Superstars to build. He wanted established Superstars instead. The fact that Heyman was trying to establish new Superstars in the middle of a pandemic with zero live fans didn’t help things at all.
“I think that also there was a feeling that during a pandemic doing hot shot angles with people that aren’t really working in this environment, I don’t know he wasn’t doing although that didn’t help, you know the ratings for both shows were declining at the exact same rate.”
It was noted that RAW was ahead of SmackDown this week in the 18-49 demographic. He stated that “should never happen” because Fox is in 25 million more homes.
Paul Heyman is no longer on RAW. Vince McMahon doesn’t even have to provide an explanation because it’s his company.
