WWE purchased WCW in March, 2001. It was a very interesting time in pro wrestling that soon saw a disappointing invasion angle. WWE did away with using the WCW name, but it looks like they have something else in store.

The company filed a new trademark for “WCW” on May 18th. This new trademark filing can be used in many different ways. A majority of those applications have to do with merchandising.

It looks like fans could look forward to a ton of new WCW merchandise down the line. Items included in the new trademark filing include: cardboard and paper hangtags, cardboard packaging, paper packaging, blister cards, sticker collectibles, framed pictures, vinyl and plastic clings, greeting cards, magazines and newspapers concerning sports entertainment, books featuring pictorial biographies, comic books, bumper stickers, and lithographs.

They also included a ton of school supplies and other party supply accessories. It appears that WWE is getting ready to slap the WCW trademark on a lot of merchandise and capture some nostalgia money.
