Drew Gulak’s WWE contract expired, but it didn’t take long to figure out a new deal. The former SmackDown Superstar will return this week marking the end to a very brief hiatus from the company. Most fans won’t even realize he was gone.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed Drew Gulak’s situation. He was contacted for work once it was known he had no non-complete clause. Apparently, the impression Gulak gave everyone was that he already had plans in mind.
“I know people who tried to book him for future dates because you know he was actually a free agent. He could have been on whatever. He could have been on Double Or Nothing and he… the way he reacted — I guess by the way he reacted when people contacted him they didn’t know he was going back to WWE, but they knew he was going somewhere because he wasn’t interested in anything so it was assumed that he was going to WWE or AEW, but he had already pretty much made up his mind that he wasn’t going anywhere else.”
The contract negotiations obviously worked out in Drew Gulak’s favor. WWE might not mind if some of their Superstars end up in AEW. They obviously wanted to keep such a valuable asset like Drew Gulak around.
