WWE has yet to allow any live fans back since the COVID-19 pandemic caused a huge change of plans. There is hope that live fans will return soon, but it hasn’t happened yet. This is not preferable, but at least pro wrestling found a way to continue.
While speaking to Wrestling Inc, Heath Slater revealed that he hates having zero fans in the crowd. In fact, everyone hates it because the crowd helps performers feed off their energy and carry a show.
“I hate it. Everyone hates it because the people is what makes it. My goodness! When I was a heel, the best thing was when I would have a dude in a hold and I would hear something. Someone would say, ‘Oh, you suck’ and I’d be like, ‘Oh, you shut your mouth!’ I’d just go off on them and that’s the best feeling in the world.”
“But if there’s no one there and I’m going, ‘Shut your mouth’ then they’re gonna be like what’s he talking about? Is he okay?”
Performing in front of zero live fans causes a Superstars to rely on different aspects of their in-ring game to carry them through. It has also encouraged WWE to think outside the box in many ways.
There are a lot of possibilities of what pro wrestling can be without live fans as they think of innovative solutions. The old standard of bringing in fans to cheer the action in the ring will always be the preferable way to go.
