WWE took the IC Title off of Sami Zayn because he was not able to come to work. This is much different from how they treated Brock Lesnar in the past when he left for months as a top champion. Fans and Superstars took notice.

Wrestling News reports that while WWE won’t punish bigger talents like Roman Reigns, they did certainly send a message to the lower level of the roster. By taking the IC Title off of Sami Zayn they made it clear that it does not guarantee anything for people who decide not to show up to work.

“WWE will always say that wrestlers can take time off and not worry about their spot and that certainly would apply to a top star like Roman Reigns, but for others that is not a guarantee and wrestlers in the mid and lower card certainly took notice.”

Sami Zayn might be back and go for the IC Title once he does return. It will be very interesting to see if WWE gives him another opportunity to carry that title.
