The Undertaker’s legendary WrestleMania streak was broken at 21 wins after Brock Lesnar defeated him at WrestleMania XXX in New Orleans. It was a shocking decision that will always be controversial. Vince McMahon had his reason for doing it.
While speaking with Ariel Helwani, The Undertaker revealed the conversation he had with Vince McMahon about breaking the streak. Some people are still against this decision like The Undertaker’s wife Michelle McCool. All The Undertaker wanted to make sure of was that Vince McMahon was certain he wanted to end the streak with Brock Lesnar.
“Internally, and the way this business works, I knew that someday it probably would. In our industry, you just don’t walk away like Floyd [Mayweather] and retire undefeated or Rocky Marciano.”
“Although most of my peers and people that I work with thought it was a horrible decision. I just asked Vince, are you sure? Is this what you want? He was like, ‘If it’s not Brock, who can beat you?’ from the way the streak was built and by that time.
“So it was like, alright, it’s your call. Everybody thinks that I have all this juice that I can say yes or say no. I mean I could have said no. What good was that gonna do?…what do I do? Not go out? or throw a tissy?, I’m not going over… that’s not me. I’m business, and business comes first before anything personal.”
The Undertaker could have protested Vince McMahon’s call to break the streak, but that’s not what the Deadman is all about. He let Brock Lesnar beat him in a match he still doesn’t remember due to the concussion he suffered early into the match.
