WWE had a good idea to put notable names like Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff in Executive Director positions on Raw and SmackDown respectively. It didn’t last long for Eric Bischoff.
Dave Meltzer reported that Eric Bischoff dropped the ball with FOX. It was said that he had “absolutely no vision.” This was stated as a big reason why Bischoff’s WWE tenure was so short this time around.
“Eric had absolutely no vision, and once we were headed into FOX, everyting was falling through the cracks,” said one WWE official to the Wrestling Observer. “He messed up multiple times with FOX.”
Bischoff saw these words in a tweet and he replied. Eric Bischoff made a point that WWE’s deal with FOX was hammered out long before his arrival. He also claimed to have very little contact with FOX executives.
Interesting. All the vision and planning for Fox took place LONG before I arrived. I had only minimal interface w Fox execs after starting in late July. Most, if not all creative/production discussions took place well above my pay grade. Just more digital diarrhea from Meltzer.
Eric Bischoff didn’t work out on SmackDown for one reason or another. The exact reason seems to be a matter of debate, but Bruce Prichard stepped into the Executive Director position on the blue brand which is the role he still plays behind the scenes.
