Vince McMahon folded the XFL’s 2020 reboot months after the first kickoff. This wasn’t anything planned as COVID-19 caused a demise for the league. XFL commissioner Oliver Luck was fired in the process, but he didn’t remain quiet about it.
Luck filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against Vince McMahon, but now the WWE owner’s legal team is striking back. Sports Business Daily reports that Vince McMahon gave a reason for firing Oliver Luck that was quite direct: “gross neglect.”
McMahon is being sued for breach of contract after firing Oliver Luck. McMahon’s legal team is saying that Luck neglected his job duties in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is claimed that Luck used his XFL-issued iPhone for personal reasons. He also signed former NFL player Antonio Callaway after Vince McMahon said not to hire players with previous legal problems.
McMahon’s attorneys stated these complaints about Oliver Luck in a pre-trial motion that was held today. Luck disputes and rejects the allegations in McMahon’s legal team’s statement.
Vince McMahon guaranteed Oliver Luck’s contract. Oliver Luck’s contract was for $5 million as an annual salary and $2 million annual bonus. McMahon admitted to this guarantee in court. If they can prove that Oliver luck was fired for a reason then that guarantee will no longer be valid. WWE attorney Jerry McDevitt is heading up Vince McMahon’s case in the matter.
