While it may have been nothing more than storyline advancement, the threat of Dustin Rhodes actually retiring from in-ring competition has a lot of people talking.
Rhodes has claimed that if he doesn’t beat Kip Sabian in his upcoming quarter-final showdown, he will retire. Either way, it’s certainly an interesting way to get fans invested in your match.
One man who seems to be playing along with the story is none other than Matt Hardy.
Hardy has only been in AEW for a matter of weeks, and some fans had already considered the intriguing possibility of him doing some work with the man formerly known as Goldust.
You’d have to imagine Dustin would go out in a bigger match than this one if he did, indeed, retire, which leads some to believe this will serve as his swan song run that ends with him capturing the TNT Championship.
