Welcome to Ringside News’ coverage of WWE Friday Night SmackDown on FOX. Please keep refreshing throughout the show for constant updates once it kicks off at 8:00 PM EST.
Tonight is a very interesting episode of Friday Night SmackDown. So far we know about two segments that will take place. There are no matches advertised for the show so far.
John Cena will be on the show this week. He will answer to Bray Wyatt’s challenge for a Firefly Fun House match.
The Miz and John Morrison will also host another episode of The Dirt Sheet. The New Day and The Usos will be on that segment. The three teams are set to battle at WrestleMania in a ladder match. That contest needed to be changed on the day of WrestleMania as well.
WWE was re-editing the show today. The first segment was set to be Roman Reigns and Goldberg. WWE is working hard to figure out a few things. We will soon see what they are able to work out.
This could be one of the more interesting WrestleMania go-home shows in WWE history.
Opening Segment
The ring had ladders everywhere and the ring was set up with six directors chairs, but no Miz or Morrison.
The Usos came out instead of Miz and Morrison. They cut a promo about becoming champions. Then New Day came out. Big E said “Ahhhh People At Home!” before telling everyone to clap. That was funny.
The New Day started singing “Oh no,” and went to the ring. Big E said the circumstances are unique, but it’s still WrestleMania. They’ll take the titles at WrestleMania. The started arguing. Then Miz and Morrison came out.
Miz said “Don’t mind us, it’s not like it’s our show.” They talked trash about their challengers and stayed at the top of the ramp. They climbed up two really big ladders and said “Be jealous.” The Usos and New Day rushed Miz and Morrison. Then Uce accidentally kicked Kofi. Big E tossed the other Uce over the barricade. Miz and Morrison grabbed a ladder and took out Kofi and then they shoved Big E through another ladder.
So the tag team champs looked strong in the go-home episode before WrestleMania.
Michael Cole did a voice-over for John Cena answering Bray Wyatt and they’re going to play Ric Flair’s “I Love You, I’m Sorry” retirement WrestleMania match against Shawn Michaels. Cole’s microphone was a bit different so you could tell he recorded those in post which was likely in an unconventional location.
Naomi came out next. Bayley and Sasha Banks were at commentary. Cole wanted to be on Banks’ rap album. She said, “Absolutely not.” Then Lacey Evans came out.
Lacey Evans vs Naomi vs Tamina
Evans put her pretty red hat on Cole’s head and he made zero effort to take it off. Then Bayley shamed Cole for still having the hat on.
There are 7 people at ringside. No idea how many crew members. Let’s say 3 because 10 is the magic number that apparently defeats cornavirus.
The three went at it hard with Lacey and Naomi trying to double team Tamina. Then they went outside before cutting to commercial.
Tamina and Naomi battled in the ring and Naomi nailed a spingboard kick off the ropes. Evans jumped in and hit a clothesline on Tamina as she shot off the ropes. Then Evans hit her big headstand kick in the corner.
Bayley and Banks hugged on commentary while Evans hit a slingshot elbow. Then Banks threw Evans into the ring steps. Naomi kicked Sasha. Then Naomi hit a sunset flip into the ring for a two count.
Tamina nailed a Samoan drop for a two count.
Bayley caused a distraction and then Tamina nailed a kick on Naomi for the win.
Winner: Tamina
After the match, Bayley tried to shake Tamina’s hand “I’m proud to have you in our match, thank you so much, it’s good to have you back, it’s fair, honest, good job.” Tamina shook her hand and hit her with a superkick. The Performance Center was so quiet you could hear the ringside cameraman snapping photos. So, that’s a cameraman we know was there too.
They showed Tucker doing some stretching backstage. Then they played Ric Flair vs Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania XXIV. This is a match they have on YouTube which you can find below.
Otis and Tucker were backstage. Tucker told Otis it looked like Mandy was going to see Dolph. Then Otis got a text and he got excited and he left. Their match is next.
Tucker vs Dolph Ziggler
Dolph avoided Tucker early on and tried to shoot a leg, but Tucky tossed him away. Then he took Ziggler down with a clubbing blow. Tucky kicked Dolph a few times to make Ziggler pay for cockblocking Otis.
Then Zigglerhit an elbow drop for a two count before applying a headlock. Tucker made it to his feet and Ziggler hit a dropkick for another two count.
Tucker got the upperhand and nailed a kick to the face. Then Tucker took a post after Ziggler moved. Dolph hit a DDT and they went to commercial.
Ziggler kept Tucker down with a headlock for a bit. Then Tucker tossed Ziggler out of the ring.
They continued battling until Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville came out. Then video footage was shown thanks to a hooded man on the screen. This footage proved that Sonya Deville was the one who sabotaged Mandy Rose’s date with Otis. Sonya also arranged the whole thing with Dolph Ziggler.
Mandy Rose got pissed and walked off while Sonya cried. Deville followed Mandy Rose through the Performance Center, but Mandy kept walking.
Daniel Bryan vs Shinsuke Nakamura
Sami Zayn took commentary as Bryan and Nakamura started grappling.
Cole tried to put Bryan over as Sami dismissed him as a threat at WrestleMania. There were 7 people around the ring that we could see. Referee Jessika Carr, Daniel Bryan, Drew Gulak, Shinsuke Nakamura, Sami Zayn, Cesaro, Michael Cole plus a few production always so they’re keeping it at around 10.
Daniel tried to hit a rana off the top rope, but Nakamura blocked it bad and nailed a knee off the top for a two count. Nakamura continued to punish Daniel Bryan while Sami Zayn encouraged his client.
Daniel Bryan started to rally when they came back from commercial. Then he landed some Yes Kicks, but he missed the last one and Nakamura landed some hard knee strikes. That cheered Sami Zayn up. Then Nakamura hit his own Yes Kicks. Bryan caught the last one and then he nailed a kick and eventually got a two count.
Bryan started working on Nakamura’s arms. Nakamura went for a Kinshasa, but Bryan grabbed his leg and latched on a Boston Crab. Nakamura crawled to the ropes to cause a break.
Then Bryan started nailing kicks and they traded forearm strikes. Nakamura and Bryan were having the best wrestling match they possibly could. The two traded arm bars flipping over each other and tying each other up like pretzels as they traded holds. Then Bryan got the Yes Lock. Cesaro jumped in and caused a DQ. Gulak and Cesaro fought on the outside and Cesaro sent Gulak over the barricade. Bryan nailed a dive, Cesaro caught him and threw him against the table.
They beat Gulak down even more and took the beating of Bryan back into the ring.
Winner: Nobody
John Cena
Out came John Cena to cut a promo and bring this bad boy home. He thanked Michael Cole for setting the stage.
Cena said that WWE made everyone wonder what is going to happen when RAW and SmackDown happen without an audience. Cena said there were some “meh” moments, but he thanked us for watching because there were some big ones too.
Now these are the final moments before WrestleMania 36. John Cena said that nobody knows what’s going to happen. He’s in a Firefly Fun House match and nobody will tell him what that is.
Cena said the Fiend wants uncertainty because it can lead to fear and panic and collapse. He said Fiend has dominated WWE with uncertainty, fear, and panic, and here we are on the eve of WrestleMania staring into the uncertainty asking “what happens next?”
Cena said he will not panic, he’s not afraid and he will squash Bray Wyatt and finish what he started 6 years ago. He steered it back into a pro wrestling promo, but for a moment it felt like a promo where Cena was talking to America about this current awful f*cking situation this world is in.
Cena said he was ready to step aside, but The Fiend made the challenge and he’s tried to take every advantage and he’s still gonna get his ass kicked. Cena laughed and said he accepts Cena’s challenge.
Ramblin Rabbit appeared at the barricade along with all the rest of the Firefly Fun House puppets. They said when The Fiend’s done with Cena they will get to play with him forever, and ever and ever and ever.
Then The Fiend showed up on the balcony and he had a stare-down with John Cena. Suddenly, Firefly Fun House Bray Wyatt was right next to Cena saying: “Let me in.” They edited that together and it was cool.
That’s how SmackDown ended.
