WrestleMania 36 didn’t have the kind of build anyone guessed. The show was pieced together as a novel coronavirus wrecked plans for the entire planet. WWE has a reason for waving their flag so high during this trying time. They don’t want to let people forget that they’re around because that’s good exposure.
Zero live sports provided an opening for McMahon to get his product on a lot of televisions which he took full advantage of. During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained Vince McMahon’s mindset about putting WWE on so many platforms right now.
“Vince is going with the idea that the more places that have this and the more eyeballs that watch this week which is why they’re flooding things they had the Royal Rumble on FS1 and they’re having WrestleManias on ESPN. They’re airing things up in Canada — with no other sports WrestleMania was the highest rated program on ESPN for the entire week. So, they wanna flood the market that way there are more eyeballs and with eyeballs the idea is that they have popularity.”
It will be interesting to see if WWE grabs extra viewers with WrestleMania this year. It is an original sporting event during a time when those just aren’t happening.
Vince McMahon has certainly been able to get his product on more television channels than ever before during the road to WrestleMania this year.
