Ryback’s entrance in WWE was soon followed by fans drawing a correlation to his look and Goldberg. The two men were bald and worked a similar style. Looking back now, Ryback understands why it happened. He just wishes WWE would have permitted him to talk about it.
While speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Ryback revealed that the thing that upset him about the “Goldberg” chants from fans is that he wasn’t allowed to address it.
“No I understood it. I was upset I wasn’t allowed to acknowledge it on TV.”
Ryback also revealed that he addressed the “Goldberg” chants one time. It was at a house show and Vince McMahon wasn’t there.
WWE has their own reasons for allowing or prohibiting a star from saying something. They apparently had their own excuses for Ryback not to bring up the Goldberg chants.
Vince McMahon was furious at Seth Rollins for calling out the CM Punk chants from RAW a few months ago. McMahon doesn’t want to tease a match he can’t deliver. That might have been why Goldberg’s name wasn’t to be mentioned because this was during a time when he wasn’t speaking to WWE very often at all.
