WWE has officially announced the booking of a triple threat match for the RAW Tag Team Championships that will go down on next Monday’s edition of RAW.
The bout will be contested between The Viking Raiders, The OC and The Street Profits, and in a bout of this nature, we could easily see the Raiders losing their belts as a direct result of the triple threat stipulation – because, of course, they don’t actually have to be pinned or submitted.
While some fans believe that WWE isn’t really giving the tag division on RAW or SD enough attention, matches like this can surely only help them in convincing fans that they’re ready and willing to pour some real investment into the divisions.
All three of these teams have great potential, but we’d argue that only the Raiders have been handled well since moving up to the main roster. The Profits have been heavily featured but still need some work on aspects of their characters, whereas The OC have been incredibly inconsistent through no fault of their own.
NXT tends to receive most of the plaudits for putting tag team wrestling back on the map and while you could make that argument to a certain extent, we prefer to think of it as a proving ground before moving up to the big leagues.
Alas, if tag wrestling isn’t being handled with the care it so richly deserves, then what’s the point in even building up these teams in the first place? We’ll have to wait and see.
