NJPW Teases Hope Of Working With AEW

New Japan Pro Wrestling is done with AXS TV. Anthem bought out the network and then they only wanted to push Impact Wrestling. Now it appears that a forbidden door could be opening.

Hiroshi Tanahashi said that if he beats Le Champion of AEW at Wrestle Kingdom 14 then he might walk through the “forbidden door” and challenge for the title in AEW. This challenge was later accepted by Chris Jericho.

This was just social media banter and hyping a match though interviews at first. Now it appears to have gotten a bit more serious. The official New Japan Pro Wrestling YouTube account has now posted a video hyping this new match stipulation for Wrestle Kingdom 14.

Since NJPW is acknowledging AEW this has sparked a lot of fan interest in this subject. It could be just hyping a Wrestle Kingdom match, but the loss of their American television deal could provide a perfect storm for them to work something out with AEW.

If anything this might cause a lot of AEW fans to hope that Chris Jericho loses at Wrestle Kingdom 14 when they would normally cheer for Le Champion.
