Jon Moxley’s decision to leave WWE was not an easy one for him to make. He had to turn down a lot of money in the process and he wasn’t happy at all about having to go. WWE’s storylines forced him out, but while he was waiting for his contract to expire Dean Ambrose kept his mouth shut.
While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Jon Moxley revealed that WWE Superstars would ask him if he’s really leaving. He didn’t give them any definitive answer which might have fueled speculation even more that his exit was a work.
“That was a great moment for me because it was a release like finally I can relax. I’m back and here we go we’re off to the races. Because I’d been silent for months and months as these rumors came out that I was leaving or whatever and I didn’t say anything and there was a lot of… it was really awkward the last few months there. It was awkward.”
“People in the locker room didn’t even know. They’d be like, ‘What’s going on? Is it a work? Are you leaving?’ I was like ‘I don’t know’ I didn’t tell anybody literally I didn’t tell anybody anything.”
“Even when I was first going to leave AEW wasn’t a thing yet, you know.”
Jon Moxley’s WWE exit wasn’t a work at all. He simply waited for his contract to expire so he could leave the company the right way. Now he gets all of his royalties and could very well return if wants to. He seems to be plenty motivated to remain with AEW at this point as they’re only getting started.
