New Japan Pro Wrestling is open to working with AEW, but they’re open to working with anyone.
AEW and NJPW have yet to work together. Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley are working for both companies, but no agreement has been reached. If anything, things might be more strained.
Herald Meij recently spoke to Fox Sports Australia where a possible partnership with All Elite Wrestling was addressed. Meij said that they are open to working with AEW as he continued to say that they are in the “exploratory phase” of their young company.
“We’re very open to working with anyone, we don’t exclude anyone. But it does take time to create that trust between companies. And right now AEW is still in the exploratory phase; they’re trying to establish themselves as a brand, what is that brand? They’re about one year in, and we’re starting to see what their brand is all about. Then we’ll have to see if that brand fits our brand of course.”
Perhaps the idea of NJPW and AEW working together isn’t that impossible of an idea. New Japan’s relationship with ROH is reportedly what caused such an initial rift. As of right now, AEW seems driven to continue establishing their brand on TNT which hasn’t required NJPW’s assistance so far.
