AEW’s most recent pay-per-view ended in a bloody match between Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega. That lights out match might have been too much for some fans, but others loved it.
Jon Moxley was one person who loved the match. He is proud of what they were able to do and he really enjoyed the awkward tension that they brought throughout the contest. Others might not agree, but Kenny Omega admitted that there are different strokes for different folks.
While speaking to Wrestling Inc, Tony Khan addressed the negative fan reaction to their brutal lights out match at Full Gear. This was something they expected which is why they made an extra attempt to make it seem like a special occasion on pay-per-view.
“I expected it and that’s why we put it on PPV. We would never do anything like this on TV. Our friends at TNT know what we’re trying to do in putting hardcore matches in the main events of PPVs.”
“There’s gonna be two wrestlers that wanna settle it so we’re not gonna sanction it. We’re gonna turn the lights off and turn a blind eye to it and not be liable for what occurs in the ring. I think it’s a very logical thing and I’m not surprised that people are shocked. I think most people did love it. It got a huge amount of interest and it did exactly what we wanted it to do which was start a conversation. To me, I absolutely loved it.”
It might be a long time before we see wrestlers pull those kind of stunts in AEW. Then again, it’s hard to know what to expect from All Elite Wrestling at this point.
Tony Khan seemed to support it and the company has figured out a way to make sure they can settle blood feuds in a suitable way with unsanctioned matches on pay-per-view.
