CM Punk will be a regular special contributor on WWE Backstage. He won’t appear every week on FS1, but WWE Backstage is definitely going to get a boost from having Punk around.
Despite the fact that the overall opinion within Superstars is that CM Punk is returning to the ring eventually, he didn’t have total support in the company. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that some people backstage opposed the idea of CM Punk joining WWE Backstage.
Those in WWE who were aware of it, noted negativity about it at first, because of the past bad blood. But later, when he got a tryout, we were told that the expectation was that an offer would be made to him.
CM Punk and Colt Cabana were sued by WWE’s doctor Chris Amann for defamation. This was a messy situation and Punk and Cabana won, but then Cabana ended up suing CM Punk.
The timing for CM Punk coming back into the WWE fold was also very convenient since AEW changed a lot of things. As we previously noted, CM Punk had spoken to Tony Khan about joining AEW, but those talks went cold.
