Last night saw SCU become the first ever AEW Tag Team Champions, as Scorpio Sky and Frankie Kazarian defeated The Lucha Bros to win the belts and become the inaugural champs.
It was a result that very much came out of nowhere, with few expecting that they’d be able to get the job done. In the end, though, they did, and it’s a significant moment in the history of All Elite Wrestling as the promotion continues to grow and improve in its first year of operations.
Scorpio Sky, in particular, is clearly grateful for the opportunity that he’s been awarded as SCU attempts to establish themselves as top guys within AEW – pun not intended.
Many fans are of the belief that Sky could go on to do some really big things within the promotion, potentially even leading to him winning the world title one day. Whether or not he ever reaches that level remains to be seen, but for now, AEW has to be happy with what they’re seeing from him.
Last night’s match allowed him to showcase his skills in more ways than one against very tough opposition in the form of the Lucha Bros. They’ll almost certainly come back around and go for the belts once again, but SCU will be ready for them when they do.
The tag division in All Elite Wrestling is already heating up, to the point where we’d argue it’s already one of the most intriguing parts of the show as a whole.
