Shawn Spears may not be the most over guy on the roster in All Elite Wrestling, but one thing is for sure: he’s made a real impact during his short time with the company.
His rivalry with Cody Rhodes was one of the biggest highlights of their recent All Out show, with the pre-match build-up and the shenanigans making for quite the spectacle as the hype surrounding AEW continues to build.
While we haven’t seen Spears on a consistent basis for quite some time now, it certainly seems as if he’s preparing for war as fans continue to anticipate his return to action.
You could certainly argue that, if we went by the three strike rule, Spears already has one courtesy of that vicious chair shot he inflicted upon Cody which served as the start of their feud.
More than that, though, it just feels nice to know that Spears is hinting at a return, because he was really starting to build a character for himself on the big stage. Some would say he never left, but he definitely hasn’t been featured as heavily since losing to Cody.
Given how fresh the AEW product is there are probably a million and one things that could happen that are waiting around the next corner for the company to deal with, but from a storyline perspective, it definitely feels like they’ve got a clear and honest direction of where they want to go with this.
That, in itself, is a pretty exciting prospect.
