Jon Moxley was Dean Ambrose in WWE, but those days are behind him now. He had a very good reason for leaving too.

During their panel at the New York Comic Con, AEW stars were asked why they decided to join the new company. Jon Moxley was the first to answer the question and when chants of “Moxley” and “no more scripts” died down, he told his own story.

“No, no scripts. Hey, you know how many writers were backstage for the two-hour television — the very successful two-hour television show we had the other night? ZERO!”

“To answer your question for me, it was all just crazy timing. I had been planning on leaving where I was before for a few months and the first guy I told, other than my wife who knew, the first guy who knew was Chris [Jericho]. This was before I knew this was happening, I said, ‘Dude, I’m outta here.”

“I said I’m gone, he said, ‘Do you know what you’re gonna do? You’re gonna go with us.’ And I’m like, ‘What?’ Not five minutes later probably I got a call from my friend Cody Rhodes.”

Cody Rhodes explained to Jon Moxley what AEW was planning to do. It didn’t take very much convincing for Mox to make a decision, “and here we are,” he said.

Jon Moxley is set to be a huge name in AEW and the company has used him wisely so far. His first match on AEW: Dynamite will be tomorrow night against Shawn Spears who is another man that decided to leave WWE and take a chance on himself.
