While Matt Riddle may be one of the brightest young stars in professional wrestling today, his roots stem from the world of mixed martial arts.
His use of marijuana wound up derailing the progress of Matt in the organisation, and it was clear to see that things just weren’t going to work out between him and the UFC. Alas, in the end, it certainly feels as if Riddle was the one who got the last laugh.
The general thought was that he would go on to do some pretty cool things in MMA outside of the UFC, but in the end, his transition into pro wrestling wound up being way, way more successful than anyone could’ve anticipated.
The fact that Dana White and others within the Ultimate Fighting Championship took it upon themselves to insult the King of Bros is a clear sign that they were rooting for him to fail.
The trajectory of Matt Riddle arguably couldn’t be any better now, with many fans and pundits tipping him to go on to become a world champion on either RAW or SmackDown Live.
Alternatively, he could continue to be a bit of a trailblazer on NXT, which is set to make the two-hour switch over to the USA Network – coinciding with AEW’s Wednesday show, beginning the Wednesday Night Wars.
All that remains now is to wait and see if he can keep on the right track and help drag NXT to levels we arguably haven’t seen up to this point.
