AJ Styles made his big WWE debut at the 2016 Royal Rumble event and he’s been running non-stop since then.
Styles obviously had a blast with his first WWE run because he re-upped his contract recently as well. While speaking to WWE Now, he explained that NXT wasn’t an option for him at that stage in his career. Therefore, he needed to jump straight to the main roster so he could get down to business.
I wasn’t the youngest guy. Going through NXT, for me, wasn’t going to be an option unless you’re talking about a month just to get used to everything and learn how WWE works. Literally everything worked out the way I needed it to. Sometimes I’m very jealous of the people who went through NXT because they know each other so well. But at the same time, time is of the essence for me to get to the main roster and do what I do.
Things have worked out pretty well for AJ Styles at this point in his career. He doesn’t seem to regret skipping NXT either, but it is still fascinating to think about all of the incredible feuds he could have had while in WWE’s developmental system for just a brief stay.
