WWE has pulled house show events from their schedule before, but they’ve usually had a very good reason for it. With one week until Summerslam, the fact that they cancelled two house shows is a move that is quite shocking.
SmackDown house shows have been cancelled before if they were on a Monday and the company needed blue brand Superstars to appear on RAW. However, as John Pollock reports at Post Wrestling, it is a rather unprecedented move to pull an entire weekend’s worth of live events like this for no known reason.
While it’s not uncommon for the company to pull the Monday night house show of late, I cannot remember the last time they scrapped the entire weekend of shows for one brand
We will have to wait and see whether WWE has a plan for some SmackDown Superstars to show up at a RAW house show. Because WWE is only sending out the red brand this weekend for house shows. Either way, it could be a very troubling sign that ticket buys were so low that the company would rather cancel the event than let it happen as planned.
