Shawn Spears has done a fantastic job of making a name for himself ever since arriving in All Elite Wrestling, to the point where some fans are already calling him one of the most natural heels in all of professional wrestling.
The main influence behind that character shift came when he decided to turn on his friend Cody Rhodes, striking him over the head with an unprotected chair shot – which certainly got people talking in the world of pro wrestling.
Now, despite the fact that he seems to have gotten what he wanted in the form of a match against Cody, Shawn continues to poke the bear by reminding the former WWE Intercontinental Champion of the incident.
The expectation is that Rhodes will gain a measure of revenge at All Out when they go head to head in Chicago, but either way, we feel like there’s a chance this feud could leak over into the debut of AEW on TNT.
They’re going to need to come racing out of the blocks in order to make an immediate impact once TV does start, and the Cody/Spears rivalry seems to be one of the most intriguing things going on in the business right now.
There’s still a while to go before the show actually airs, and in that time, we’re looking forward to seeing where they go with this. As you can probably imagine, it seems like only a matter of time until Cody issues a response of his own – especially in the wake of the Tully Blanchard revelation.
