AEW is still putting the finishing touches on their roster, but there is always room if the right name comes along. Jim Ross’ involvement in the company seems to have opened a door to bring in Davey Boy Smith, Jr after he left NJPW. Now we will just have to see where he lands.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the British Bulldog’s son is speaking to All Japan and Pro Wrestling NOAH as well. He is also under contract with MLW in the United States. Jim Ross has reportedly been able to bridge talks with Smith and AEW as JR is said to be “high on him.”

The biggest issue that was noted could be how Davey Boy Smith, Jr might be used in AEW. As we previously reported, AEW is willing to make any exception in order to keep MJF around, but they might not be willing to push Smith as a top star.

If Smith is going to be in the MLW title picture, which is the case, he shouldn’t work AEW as just a guy, and that’s tough. Obviously with MJF it’s not an issue.

Davey Boy Smith, Jr is a very big man who can perform at a high caliber in the ring, but the top of AEW’s roster might already be set in a lot of ways. If AEW doesn’t want to push Smith as a top star as he is presented on MLW that might not encourage Major League Wrestling to let him work for The Elite, but it’s hard to argue that it would still be great exposure for the company.
