EC3 didn’t get much time in NXT before being called up to the main roster. He found himself in a feud with Dean Ambrose shortly after that, but it did not go as planned.
Jon Moxley spoke about EC3 in depth during Talk Is Jericho where he explained the entire situation. Ambrose was supposed to be working as a heel to EC3’s babyface on the road, but no matter what Mox did to get heat the fans still cheered for him.
When word got back to Vince McMahon about how the fans reacted to this series of house show matches, Ambrose’s run with EC3 was called off.
Dave Meltzer confirmed on Wrestling Observer Radio that Vince McMahon doesn’t like EC3 because of this failed feud with Dean Ambrose. Although he didn’t go into to the reasoning more specifically, he did remark that it is 100% the reason for EC3’s lack of push in WWE.
Perhaps McMahon blames EC3 for this failed run with Ambrose because he should have been able to garner cheers from the crowd no matter who he was facing. It still put EC3 in a pretty awful spot as he was trying to get cheers while much of the fans were still very upset about WWE burying Dean Ambrose on his way out of the company.
EC3 commented on Jon Moxley’s comments and he wished him the best of luck. Hopefully, EC3’s luck with WWE will change as well.
