Dolph Ziggler made his surprising return on SmackDown Live this week. He destroyed Kofi Kingston before making a challenge for the next Saudi Arabia event, but there is a reason why Ziggler is making a return at Super ShowDown.

We previously reported that Kevin Owens told WWE that he doesn’t want to go to Saudi Arabia. Therefore, the company isn’t going to make him. Instead, they had to pull some very quick booking out of their hats.

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that since KO isn’t going to KSA, Ziggler had to be pulled from an Australia appearance for the company and inserted at the last-minute as a replacement.

“So the Kofi Kingston thing, the story on that is that Kevin Owens is not going to Saudi Arabia and because of that they needed to do something and Ziggler this is a literal last-minute thing because Ziggler was booked in Australia for that weekend of Saudi Arabia and they just announced in Australia like an hour ago that he’s pulled so this is all coming down and WWE’s gonna send someone else there I guess or something. So Dolph Ziggler it’s like outa nowhere, but that’s the deal.”

It’s very likely that Dolph Ziggler’s return will be a one-off match. He is still touring the country as a stand-up comedian, but if WWE needs him then he might not have a choice. After all, before Vince McMahon decided that Ziggler needs to work the KSA show he had other Aussie plans.
