WWE hired their Superstars as independent contracts under exclusive agreements. This might not make much sense because they’re not technically employees, but WWE has been able to find the necessary loopholes to accomplish this legal work-around.

Sasha Banks is not happy at all with her spot in WWE. The creative direction for her character’s stop/start pushes coupled by ending her reign as WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion after such a long build-up with Bayley was the icing on the cake needed for her to tell WWE she wanted out.

So far WWE has not let Banks out of her contract and they aren’t likely to do so either. Banks signed a new multi-year deal last year so she still has a long time to wait.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the general idea is that WWE will just let Banks sit out the remainder of her contract if she wants to. That also won’t stop them from adding more time by freezing it due to her continued hiatus.

The attitude right now from the company side is that she can go sit out the rest of her contract if she wants to. The bad part of that is that if she doesn’t wrestle and tries to sit out, they can freeze the contract as well

WWE is not letting Harper out of his contract either in spite of his very public release request.

It looks like Vince McMahon’s worries about negative public perception for keeping Superstars who want to leave has changed. After all, they have Superstars under exclusive deals and treat them very much like employees without them being categorized as such.
