Why Elias Has Dusty Rhodes To Thank For His Gimmick

Elias had a good amount of indie wrestling experience before coming to WWE. The Drifter performed as Rock n Roll Jesus on the indies and he captured the interest of many fans. Then when WWE had a chance to get Elias they only made his gimmick pop more.

While speaking to Not Sam Wrestling, Elias revealed how his famous guitar gimmick in WWE is actually thanks to Dusty Rhodes. Because The American Dream saw this gimmick while he was at the WWE Performance Center and the rest is history.

“It actually kinda started I was having a conversation with the legendary Dusty Rhodes. I was just talking to him about my life and who I am and whatnot. Sure enough, the next time I talked to him I brought a guitar in. I told a little story to him about my life while I was strumming and he was like, ‘Dude, that’s it right there.'”

Elias said that Dusty Rhodes saw it all before and he wasn’t surprised by anything. He was interested and that gimmick stuck.

When Vince McMahon had the opportunity to give his opinion he obviously agreed with The American Dream because Elias hasn’t dropped the guitar since.
