Johnny Gargano had a very special night at NXT TakeOver: New York. He captured the NXT Title after a very long journey to the top. Although this match needed to be changed around because of Tommaso Ciampa’s injury, it was still a huge milestone for Johnny Wrestling’s career.
While recently speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Gargano as asked about the post-match celebration where Candice LeRae and Tommaso Ciampa joined him in the ring. Johnny opened up about how real of a moment it was for him and how those moments didn’t stop when the cameras stopped rolling.
“No, not at all. It’s very much so from the heart. It’s very much so I guess instinctual. You can’t plan those types of things. It’s all very spur of the moment because it’s real emotion, that stuff’s real, you know? People can say what they want about what we do, but I really felt like when I won this title it hit me.”
“It did, like being able to hug my dad, hug my mom, hug Greg, like be there with my family. Coming to the back, being able to have a moment with Hunter and have a moment with Shawn Michaels. Everyone knows how much Shawn Michaels means to me, everyone knows how much Hunter means to me, like to share a moment with them. To share a moment with Tommaso, to share a moment with Candice.”
“These are real feelings because these people know what I went through. They were there with me. They’ve been with me since day one. They know how hard this was, how much I had to scratch and claw for this. They know what this means and that’s real emotion. To be able to just put that out there and I think that’s what helped me a lot too because a lot of what you get from me is real like a lot of it is very much so from my heart and I think that’s why people latch onto what I do so much because it’s authentic. I’m not faking anything out there, it’s all very real.”
Johnny Gargano might be in NXT for a lot longer at this point, but he is 100% okay with that. As the NXT Champion he promised to take care of Ciampa’s title and that is exactly what he plans on doing.
