Jim Ross’ WWE contract has expired and he is no longer with the company. Now it is just a matter of time before we find out what his next venture will be. It looks very positive for Jim Ross, but WWE certainly didn’t seem to want to use him.

Mike Johnson was asked during PW Insider Elite audio why WWE removed Jim Ross from the commentary table during his 2009 run with the company. Of course, he would return, but he would be seldom used. This was the final straw for Good ‘ole JR, but it all started with being pulled over a decade ago.

“They wanted a more youthful voice and they decided that — I believe it was Michael Cole who stepped in at that point — they decided they wanted someone else in the role.”

WWE wants to appeal to a younger audience. This is why their announce team is full of younger people with youthful outlooks and expressions.

Jim Ross is arguably the greatest pro wrestling announcer of all time, but he’s not young. Therefore, WWE opted to remove him which is why he wasn’t used as often as he could have been during his latest return to the company.
