The Usos’ WWE contracts are running up in April and the company does not want to lose Rikishi’s twins at all. This very well could have been why WWE decided to put the SmackDown Tag Team Titles around their waists even though it happened just days after Jimmy Usos’ arrest.
Dave Meltzer was asked about Jimmy and Jey Uso’s WWE contract status during Wrestling Observer Radio. Although things might have changed since he last heard, it appears that the Usos still have not re-upped their WWE deals.
“They had night signed as of a couple of weeks ago so I don’t know if they’ve signed or not. It’s interesting because they were always booked to be at WrestleMania, but I think there’s a good shot they’re in a preshow match, that four-way. So and as good as they’ve been there’s only so much time. You only have a five-hour main show to get them on. With all the things they’ve got [for WrestleMania] it would have been hard to get them on the main show.”
Their WWE Hall Of Fame father Rikishi did drop a huge hint that his sons will be free agents soon. He also expressed concern about the damage they’re putting on their bodies with full-time WWE schedules.
We will have to wait and see, but it is possible that WWE is still trying to sweeten the deal so the Uso Penitentiary doesn’t relocate. However, a WrestleMania kickoff show match might not be able to get that accomplished.
