Kenny Omega ended up signing with AEW instead of WWE after Vince McMahon’s company did everything they could to get him. However, it seems like there was one things that The Cleaner wanted that WWE couldn’t give him: creative control.
While speaking to TSN’s Dan and Jay, Omega said that he felt like he wanted creative control to express his own ideas. However, that obviously wasn’t possible in WWE. After all, Vince McMahon is the be all end all decision maker in that company. Omega did admit that it would have been a good time had he decided to join WWE.
“It just wasn’t for me. I learned a lot of things that helped me take the next step after I left WWE. I had always felt when I had full creative control of my own person and own ideas that I could be the true me and show my full potential.”
“At that stage of my career, probably not. 10 or 12 years later, yeah, now would be a good time. I was actually considering going there earlier in the year, but AEW just seemed right for me. I always get really excited at the idea of having full creative control and just doing new things.”
“To me that’s exciting as a performer. I felt that was probably what was best for me, as of right now.”
Kenny Omega is set to recreate his epic Wrestle Kingdom match against Chris Jericho at Double Or Nothing. This will probably be a can’t-miss match as the first one in the Tokyo Dome was pretty epic.
At least whatever Omega does in AEW will apparently be in his own creative direction. This is really helped by the fact that he is an Executive Vice President of the company.
