WWE superstar Kofi Kingston has revealed what he told Mustafa Ali in the aftermath of his injury earlier this year.
The former multi-time Tag Team Champion looks set to finally get his moment in the main event scene at WrestleMania, with many fans backing him to face Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship – despite the fact he wasn’t able to secure that opportunity earlier this week on SmackDown Live.
However, before he even got to the point of being able to talk about heading to Mania, he first had to take advantage of an opportunity that came to him courtesy of Mustafa Ali. Mustafa was set to enter the Elimination Chamber match for the WWE Title, before an injury ruled him out of proceedings.
During a recent interview with talkSPORT, Kofi spoke about what he said to Ali in the aftermath of the incident.
“I told him – and he knows – that his future is very bright, he’s one of the guys that I’d watch on 205 Live and be like ‘wow, this guy is pretty incredible’. The things he can do with his body, the stories he’s able to tell, the emotions he’s able to portray and the way he’s able to connect with the WWE Universe is a very special thing.
He has a bright future for sure and I knew that when I replaced him, oddly enough, I knew I would be able to deliver in a way that I thought wouldn’t disappoint him. Because, for him to be in that position, to watch somebody take his spot and, god forbid, I would have had a terrible performance? Now, he feels even worse! It wouldn’t have done him justice if I would have had a bad outing.”
Kofi Kingston on Mustafa Ali’s injury
This bizarre twist of fate (pun not intended) has opened the door for Kofi to finally reach the mountain top, but it does make you question what could’ve been with Mustafa Ali who was on a roll prior to his injury.
