Asuka is still SmackDown Women’s Champion, but she is without a WrestleMania opponent. Next week’s episode of SmackDown Live will feature a fatal four-way match between Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville, Carmella, and Naomi. The winner of that match will get a shot at The Empress Of Tomorrow’s title at WrestleMania.
It is possible that there is some kind of a schmoz at the end of the fatal four-way on Tuesday. This could be achieved in many different ways from a double-pin to KO and anything in between.
It is highly likely that Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville’s on-screen relationship is straining. Therefore, seeing those two compete directly against each other in a WrestleMania title match could be the extra push needed to ignite a split of Fire & Desire. (It really doesn’t make much sense to do that with a new Women’s Tag Team Division, but it’s WWE.)
Asuka’s SmackDown Women’s Title reign hasn’t been received very well, but they kept her off of television for an entire month before Elimination Chamber. WWE needs to present her as a strong champion and keep her character intact even after she loses the title. Therefore, arranging a WrestleMania match where she has to fight against more than one opponent could be the perfect solution.
It might not be the best thing for Asuka to remain 0-2 at WrestleMania, so a win would naturally be preferable for her. However, there is still a chance that Asuka could be defending her title against Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville, Carmella, and Noami or any of those combinations.
