Rusev was very proud to be the WWE United States Champion. Then he lost the title once again during the WWE Royal Rumble kickoff show. The Bulgarian Brute is still celebrating Rusev Day, but his zeal might be a bit diminished. He is now a heel and set to tag with Shinsuke Nakamura, the man who beat him for the United States Title.

R-Truth won the United States Title from Shinsuke Nakamura on the day after the Royal Rumble pay-per-view. As Rusev spoke to Chasing Glory, he expressed a lot of doubt about the future of the US Title in spite of how much it means to him.

“It meant a lot, it always does. Because it’s the first championship I ever won. The one thing is it kinda hurts me because I’m the only one that cares about it. It feels like I’m the only one that cares about that title and I wanted to make it bigger. I wanted to make it what it was back when we wrestled John Cena for it.”

“It seems like when anyone else has it nothing happens and now that I lost it I know the title is probably going to get lost again. I’m gonna get lost probably too.”

Rusev obviously had bigger plans for himself as United States Champion, but it didn’t happen. Perhaps his day will come again, but he expressed a lot of doubt that any of his hard work in the company is paying off.

With no “contractual rematch clause” in WWE anymore as part of Vince McMahon’s New Era, Rusev might have to wait in line again. We will have to see how his current storyline with Shinsuke Nakamura works out.
