Chris Jericho brought New Japan Pro Wrestling to another level when he agreed to work a program with Kenny Omega at last year’s Wrestle Kingdom show. Then he had amazing programs with Evil and Naito as well.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Chris Jericho is allowed to continue working for NJPW as part of his All Elite Wrestling deal. There are also three big names lined up for Y2J to face once they can come to some sort of final agreement on a contract.
“So here’s the story with Chris Jericho and New Japan. So he is not signed with New Japan, but he has talked with Gedo and whatever it is that they’ve talked about. Obviously, they’ve had a meeting with the minds and ideas for this year.”
“You know his contract [with AEW] allows him to do New Japan and wants to do New Japan. Gedo wants him so now it’s just a question of getting the contract and signing the contract, but there is no contract right now.”
Meltzer said that Jericho wants to wrestle Tanahashi and Okada. It was also noted that the three names he heard while in Japan that NJPW wants Y2J to face are Tanahashi, Okada, and Suzuki.
We will just have to wait and see what happens next. If you know anything about Chris Jericho’s track record he’s very capable of surprising everyone.
