Ronda Rousey’s name has popped up more in the news today than usual because it is reported that she is likely leaving WWE sometime after WrestleMania.
Bryan Alvarez described the situation during Wrestling Observer Live as something that has been talked about for a while. People knew that Rousey was looking to start a family. It isn’t impossible to be in that position, leave WWE, and come back when you’re ready because others have done it before.
“This has been talked about for a while. This is not something new. The story that Dave wrote is being talked about a lot this week I think that’s why he wrote it as the cover story, but this is not new, it’s been discussed for a while.”
Ric Flair gave an interview last year where he said that Ronda Rousey signed a one-year deal with WWE. He might have let the cat out of the bag as Dave Meltzer explained.
“I think Ric knew when he said it. I think a lot of the women knew at the time. Ric was obviously trying to push for the Ronda Rousey/ Charlotte Flair match which we did have and although I’m sure Ric was going crazy that they had the match then because I’m sure he wanted to save it for WrestleMania.”
Ronda Rousey is still slated for a WrestleMania match against Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter said that it’s very likely that Lynch will go over in that match to give the fans what they want. Rousey could be leaving WWE on a full-time basis, but she’s not going away. This really hasn’t been a secret in certain circles though.
