Jim Ross has repeatedly denied reports that he is aligned with All Elite Wrestling. When Dave Meltzer was asked about this on Wrestling Observer Radio, he also no-sold the question and remarked that he didn’t know.
However, Rajah reports that Jim Ross is not only set to be a part of AEW, he very well could be the voice of the new company. It is said that JR will be “heavily involved,” with All Elite Wrestling both on commentary and in a backstage role as well.
This is very interesting and could bring a lot of fans in just because Good ‘ole JR is on commentary. Ross has denied reports likely because he is still under contract with WWE until the end of March. He has given some clear indications that he is not re-signing with WWE and he is also no longer a presence with New Japan Pro Wrestling either after his contract ran out last year.
Ross was unable to negotiate a new deal with NJPW due to his WWE contract which permitted him to continue working under the prearranged deal, but he could not sign a new contract.
Only time will tell if they can work everything out, but it seems like if AEW can pull down one of the television deals that is said to be on the table then they already have one of the best commentators of all time to fill the audio track.
