WWE SmackDown Live is moving to Fox Network starting in October 2019. This move of networks will also see the show go back to Friday nights, but the show will remain a live broadcast. However, the new network might ask for more changes.
Wade Keller addressed the rumors on The PW Torch SmackDown Post-Show that WWE might need to change their programming style due to the Fox move. He said it seems like Fox would have known what they were buying for prime-time on Fridays.
“I’m not in the camp of thinking there will be a big change. It’s possible that has been blown out of proportion. It’s an interesting discussion point if it turns out that definitely is a strong desire from Fox and they want a makeover I question why they would pay so much money for a product they didn’t like or want.”
It was noted that maybe everyone blew up the idea about WWE needing to alter their product at Fox’s discretion to present a more serious sports-based broadcast. WWE is well known and Fox was certainly aware of what SmackDown Live looks like, dance breaks and all.
As the months progress and WWE gears up for a move to Fox, it will be interesting if we see a change in tone. The cold open on Raw and SmackDown Live this week was a nice touch and a change from the norm. Perhaps his New Era will provide some extra excitement that has caused so many fans to grow passive toward the product.
