Brock Lesnar winning the WWE Universal Championship was not their initial plans at all. The intention was for Roman Reigns to carry the Universal Championship and have a big Mania program. This is not going to happen because Roman Reigns had to go home and take care of himself. You never know when he’ll be back, but for now, Lesnar is the WWE Universal Champion.
Braun Strowman won the chance to face Lesnar at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view on January 27th, but the WWE Universe is always looking forward to WrestleMania. Apparently, things might not turn out too well for Strowman in Phoenix because as Bryan Alvarez said on Wrestling Observer Live the plan is still in place for Brock Lesnar to retain and carry the title into WrestleMania.
“I mean as far as I know Brock Lesnar vs Seth Rollins for the Universal Title although that could change. I am not confident about that for a lot of reasons. Let’s see what happens at the Royal Rumble and then we’ll talk more about that after a while.”
We previously reported this plan was in place and it looks like that hasn’t changed yet. At the time of our initial report, the plan is also going to call for plenty of Roman Reigns talk as well to draw heat off the fact that he isn’t around due to leukemia.
Only time will tell how WWE books their biggest show of the year. Roman Reigns might not be around for a while and Rollins is replacing Reigns on WWE’s official Raw graphic. Therefore, you never know if WWE might give Rollins another huge WrestleMania moment.
