WWE is throwing their Royal Rumble pay-per-view event on January 27th in Phoenix Arizona. They’re holding the event in Chase field and to fill up so many seats in a baseball stadium, WWE is going to need matches to back up the reputation that they have created with the Royal Rumble event.

We already know about one big title match on the show. Now it looks like WWE is gearing up for another rematch in Phoenix.

Shinsuke Nakamura dropped the WWE United States Title to Rusev during the Christmas Day episode of SmackDown Live. It was a big deal for Rusev because December 25th is also his birthday.

Therefore, Rusev got a big surprise party from Lana, then he gave Lana’s father an amazing Christmas present, and then he got to watch himself winning the US Title that night. It was a pretty good Christmas/Birthday for Rusev.

On the New Year’s Day episode of SmackDown Live, things weren’t so great for Rusev. Shinsuke Nakamura showed up and laid him out with a couple of Kinshasas. Nakamura then held up the WWE US Title meaning he wants it back.

Bryan Alvarez noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that this likely means a Royal Rumble re-match is going to happen between Rusev and Shinsuke Nakamura.

Hopefully, they will be able to deliver. It’s been a long time since Rusev held the WWE US Title and he’s probably not looking for it to be a short reign at all.
