Jon Jones was able to defeat Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232 to become the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. This win could set up another encounter for Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones, however, Cormier has already stated that he plans on retiring in March.
WWE could have an open door for DC as well which might be very tempting as he wanted to make a transition to the commentary world. Still, Brock Lesnar is around and is in USADA being tested and showing signs that he’s passing.
Dana White participated in a post-event press conference where he was asked about Brock Lesnar. When asked whether Lesnar is out of the title picture, White gave a pretty interesting reply.
“No, he’s not. He’s not out of the picture.”
This could certainly leave the door open for a Lesnar return to the UFC. White commented that “I think he’s already under contract with me,” regarding Lesnar’s current contractual status as well.
He also went on to comment on The Beast Incarnate’s possible future to the UFC.
“We were talking about it, and then he ended up signing a new deal with WWE. What I think happens is that he’s in a very unique position, because he can play this thing between UFC and WWE. They get right down to the wire, and I think Vince throws so much money at him that he goes ‘alright, I’ll do it again.'”
“Because this is here no matter what. When he’s ready, he can come in here and fight and he’s gonna make a sh*tload of money here too. So it makes sense. I assume that’s what’s going on.”
You never know what Lesnar might decide to do. He is still under suspension, but that expiration is getting closer each day. Perhaps we will see Brock Lesnar fight again in the UFC next year in a huge encounter, but Vince McMahon could always have enough money to change anyone’s mind.
